Clinical Supervision for Psychologists

Working with Complex Trauma and Dissociative Disorders requires integration of many clinical skills and models. It is important for clinicans of all levels to gain the rigor, optimism and confidence to thrive in a field  that is so under-represented in our profession.

My supervision style is warm and enthusiastic. Helping adults with histories of childhood trauma can be the most rewarding experience, through understanding the extraordinary ways  inwhich the mind can help people survive.

Clinical supervsion provides a safe space to explore every aspect of your work and the way it impacts you, personally and professionally. This supports you towards your long-term commitment to helping people.

Typical areas covered in Clinical Supervision  can include

  • prevention/management of occupational hazards such as vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout
  • building  safe and strong therapy relationships through attention to boundaries and psychodynamics
  • principles of  phased, trauma-informed treatment
  • integration of models for trauma reprocessing and parts work
  • development of clinical skills
  • utilizing transference and countertransference therapeutically
  • practice management/self-care issues such as caseload, taking leave, maternity leave, work/life balance

I have supervised members of the Psychology Team at The Heart Centre for Children at Westmead Hospital since the team was established in 2010,  furthering our understanding  and treatment of childhood medical trauma. I also supervise psychologists in private practice. For several years I have been lecturing at Western Sydney University in the Clinical Psychology Masters, teaching Dissociative Disorders And Psychodynamic Therapy.
